CELESTIAL REALMS: Japanese Artworks of Divine Constitution
“Orientations Gallery and Oriental Treasure Box are returning to the newly renovated elegant Nippon Gallery on the prestigious 7th Floor of The Nippon Club Tower. This event, entitled “CERESTIAL REALMS: Japanese Artworks of Divine Constitution”, celebrates the fifth collaborative vetted exhibition. High quality objects by accomplished and recognized artists in the fields of cloisonné enamels, metalwork, ceramics, art lacquer, painting, basketry, carving, and textiles will be on view. Buddhist and Shinto sculpture and ritual objects will pay homage to the important exhibition running concurrently at The Asia Society.
Fabulous “Divinely constituted” animals of legend will also be featured in a dynamic display. An illustrative lecture by Hollis Goodall, Curator of Japanese Art at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, will complement the exhibition on Monday, March 14th at 4pm. Last year’s standing-room-only lecture was one of the highlights of Asia Week.
The Nippon Club is an august organization that is celebrating its 110th year in New York. Located at 145 West 57th Street, the show will run from Saturday, March 12 to Saturday, March 19 (Closed on Sundays). Many attendees described last year’s exhibition as one of the most exciting of New York Asia Week, and several longtime members of the Nippon Club commented that the show was among the finest to appear at the Nippon Gallery.
