“Flowers are…East and West”

Ikebana Exhibition to Honor Mrs. Judith Setsuko Hata,
Advisor Emeritus, Ikebana International New York Chapter #7

Presented by The Sogetsu Wasetsu Group
In cooperation with Ikebana International New York Chapter #7

The Nippon Club is pleased to host the exhibition “Flowers are … East and West” to honor Mrs. Judith Setsuko Hata on March 7 and 8, 2018.

Featured will be Japanese flower arrangements by Mrs. Hata, her Wasetsu Sogetsu students as well as leading artists from other ikebana schools. This special multi-school exhibition is in cooperation with Ikebana International New York Chapter with support from the Sogetsu New York Branch and friends in commemoration of the auspicious occasion of the Japanese government on behalf of the Emperor awarding Mrs. Hata the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays. This award recognizes her lifelong promotion of mutual cultural understanding between Japan and the United States through ikebana. The exhibition title, “Flowers Are … East and West” reflects Mrs. Hata’s passion, as she says, “learning and sharing ikebana on a journey with many friends along the way.”

Ikebana International, a worldwide nonprofit cultural organization, promotes ikebana enthusiasts of all schools and backgrounds. For more than half a century, Ikebana International New York Chapter has flourished under Mrs. Hata’s leadership. She is now Advisor Emeritus having served as president for two terms and nearly every board position during that time. She also was founder and served as director for 20 years of Sogetsu New York Branch. She continues to promote mutual respect and education of Japanese culture through ikebana through the many thousands she has inspired.
