Bob Gach and Ikuko Miyazaki-Gach
Two-Person Exhibition “Living Intuition”

The Nippon Gallery at The Nippon Club is pleased to host the two-person exhibition entitled “Living Intuition” by Mr. Bob Gach and Ms. Ikuko Miyazaki-Gach.
 
Five years ago, an artist asked her “Why don’t you draw something?” Then the artist handed her crayons and paper. She didn’t know what to do. She took art classes at school when she was young like everybody else, but never studied professionally. However, she picked out some colors and then started drawing circles just like kindergartners. Something shocking occurred when she was drawing these circles, it felt “Fun” doing so. Since then she has been painting mostly on Japanese paper with Japanese paints called “Iwa Enogu”. First she picks the theme of the painting, then picks the colors and then draws “Intuitionally”.
 
Mr. Bob Gach is also a hobbyist photographer who enjoys working in different styles as he learns his craft. He started out about 13 years ago on a trip to Hawaii where like many before him, he wanted to “capture” something to take home and memorialize a special holiday. Now he shoots primarily with a Nikon D810 (and on occasion with a Leica M240). At this point, given how much he still has to learn and develop as a photographer, he just would not have imagined a show containing his work.
 
The idea for this exhibit was suggested by his wife, Ikuko, with the goal of sharing ideas, time and a bit of creativity with their friends and family. She gently chided him on his usual rational approach to things – being overly concerned with composition, sharpness of images, quality of technique, etc., she said to him that he should rather step back and simply select some of the more “engaging” photographs that he had already taken. She suggested that by intertwining their chosen art forms, they could rather share a bit of their mutual feeling with others in a more powerful way than simply hoping to impress others with the technical virtuosity (that is hopefully somewhere off in the future).
 
The exhibit is called “Living intuition” – a theme, which to them speaks volumes in today’s over caffeinated, overly digitized and overly information intensive world. They hope that you will feel some of the thrill and enjoyment that they received when they took this alternative view to their photographs and paintings in the most organic fashion they knew. Instead of seeing their art only through your eyes, they hope that you will experience what their art feels like.
