The Nippon Gallery at The Nippon Club is pleased to host two exhibitions, “ANOTHER JAPAN” and “NEXT JAPAN” – presented by Gallery Kasagi, from April 14 to April 27, 2016.

“ANOTHER JAPAN” (April 14 to 20) is an exhibition introducing 6 active Japanese artists who each embrace unique concepts and pursue new styles in Japanese art.

Kazuko Irie, who is one of the participating artists, will turn 100 years old this year. She held an exhibition at The Nippon Gallery 7 years ago and found many people were fascinated by her colorful and beautiful artworks. She is still aggressively working as an artist and will hold a special exhibition at Uenonomori Museum (Tokyo) next year. This time, we will display her elegant artworks which were produced from her journey of the Silk Road countries over the course of 35 years.

Goroh Saitoh is an acclaimed and world-renowned artist. His experience includes being the head of the Executive Committee of the New York-Ground Zero Street Exhibition in 2002. He describes his unique artworks that will be on display as having themes involving “Mona Lisa, grand mum and home town.”

Kay Yoshiya is a researcher of Vincent van Gogh and art of the Netherlands. Her art is called “New Renaissance”, and was influenced by both European historical art and the Japanese sensitive style.

This exhibit will also display artworks produced by: Kotaro Fukui, a young Japanese artist who is highly respected globally; Sayuri Azumi, who expresses her active imagination with traditional Japanese art techniques; and Yoshifumi Nojima, who furthers the tradition of Flandre art.

At the exhibition of “NEXT JAPAN” (April 21 to 27), we will display artworks of 14 young Japanese artists who aim to represent the art world’s next generation, some of which are doing their work in New York.

Additionally, we will display in approximation the real sized recreation of art by Noriko Tamura, who is known as one of the most popular painting artists in Japan. Since drawing the huge wall painting at the hotel of Xian (China) in 1988, she has painted 61 places around the world. You can also see her oil painting and sketches at this special gallery exhibition.

We are looking forward to your visit and hope you will enjoy the new style of Japanese art that is unlike anything you’ve seen before.
