Kayo Kitakomi, a Japanese calligrapher, living in Kochi Prefecture, is based on the theme of “Living and Alive!” and vigorously holds solo and group exhibitions in Japan and overseas, as well as pursuing the possibilities of calligraphy through collaborations with other genres. In this New York exhibition, we will exhibit many calligraphies works on the theme of “living” while interweaving Sumi ink and Japanese culture, including “Hymns: Living,” a large-scale work created with the thought that “In this day and age, when we are in the Covid 19 disaster and seeing distant wars in real time, we cherish this moment and live with this moment.”

Before the exhibition, Kitakomi said, “I am creating a world of Sumi ink clothed in the traditions of Japan, picking up what I feel from everyday life and hoping that they will be a hymn to a life full of joy living. I am happy to meet many people along with my work in New York, a city fascinated by the energy, a crucible city of races, and I have visited it many times.” In this exhibition, unique works that go beyond the concept of calligraphy will also be exhibited. Kitakomi is not bounded by a single style or way of thinking and is always looking for new expressions. -Always the beginning- is Kitakomi’s motto, and it is an exhibition that makes you look forward to something starting again from this exhibition. Please take a look.
