Let’s Support COVID-19 Fighters!
Progress Report Vol.9
April Report
It is now springtime, and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. A year ago, a state of emergency was declared in March, and people were restricted from going out. It was impossible to enjoy the cherry blossoms in that situation. The Covid-19 vaccination against the new coronavirus started in December last year, and from April 6, all adults over 16 years old can be vaccinated. It has been a fast-paced year.
May 7 marks the first anniversary of the Bento Project, which began with the desire to deliver “thanks and support” to medical professionals in the form of bento boxes. Chef Yasuoka and the restaurant staff work together to prepare bento boxes, and we are currently distributing bento boxes twice a week. As of the end of April, we have delivered a total of 8,970 bento boxes to healthcare professionals in New York.
We appreciate your donation so that we can continue delivering delicious Japanese bento to New York’s heroic healthcare professionals.
In commemoration of the upcoming one-year anniversary, a greeting from Chef Yasuoka
The COVID-19 “Let’s deliver Bento lunch boxes to medical workers in New York” project started on May 7 last year, and we have been serving them for about a year now.
The Nippon Club & Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York (JCCI) started the project with the desire to deliver Japanese bento boxes to medical professionals. With the support and ongoing cooperation of many companies and individuals, the Japanese community has become “One Team”, and we are grateful to be able to participate in contributing to the local community in New York. I want to convey “Washoku” (Japanese food), a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, in the form of bento boxes.
In recognition of the project’s achievements, the Consulate General of Japan in New York presented us with The 2020 Consul General‘s Commendation. I am determined that we will continue to prove worthy of this award.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
Hideki Yasuoka, Executive Chef of The Nippon Club
