聖夜に響くコンサート〜『オペラ座の怪人』

日本クラブの恒例のホリデーパーティーを、今年は12月19日(木)に日本クラブ会館にて開催いたします。イベントの前半は豪華ビュッフェ・ディナーをご堪能いただきながら会員様同士の交流、また、JAZZバーをオープンしますので、小川慶太ジャズ・トリオの生演奏をお楽しみいただきます。後半のエンターテインメントは、「聖夜に響くコンサート〜『オペラ座の怪人』」と題して、豪華キャストがブロードウェイ・ミュージカル『オペラ座の怪人』の名曲や、クリスマスソングを披露します。

出演は、オペラ歌手出身のミュージカル俳優、『オペラ座の怪人』の主役・クリスティーヌを演じた Meghan Picerno、俳優、歌手、ダンサーであり、ブロードウェイでは『オペラ座の怪人』のラウル・シャニュイ子爵を演じ、ABCのテレビシリーズ『Quantico』ではウィル・オルセン役で知られる、Jay Armstrong Johnson、そしてピアノ演奏は音楽監督、指揮者、ヴォーカル・コーチとして活躍するDan Micciche。このコンサートでしか観られない一期一会の競演にご期待ください。

またスペシャルイベントとして、ニューヨークで活躍するアーティスト、日本クラブWEBギャラリーの常設アーティストの一人でもあるKoh氏の絵画をパーティー会場に展示し、サイレントオークションを行います。

そしてイベントの最後には、豪華賞品を揃えたラッフルプライズを予定しております。ホリデーシーズンの夜をご一緒に楽しみましょう!皆様のご参加を心よりお待ちしております。

『Phantom of the Opera』
1986年にロンドンで初めて上演された後、ニューヨーク・ブロードウェイで1988年から上演が続けられてきたミュージカル『オペラ座の怪人』。上演回数は1万回を超え、数あるブロードウェイのミュージカルの中で、最多記録を更新し続けてきましたが、2023年4月16日に35年の歴史に幕を下ろしました。「オペラ座の怪人」はフランスの作家による小説をもとにしたミュージカルで、物語の舞台は19世紀のパリ・オペラ座。顔の傷を 仮面で隠し、オペラ座の地下に潜む怪人(=ファントム)と美しいソプラノ歌手との悲恋を描いた物語です。


アーティスト:Koh(サイレント・オークション)
ニューヨークを拠点とする油絵画家。東京出身。16 分の 1 のフランス人の混血で、ヨーロッパやアメリカで暮らした経験から、文化や性別を超え一段と多様化する世界観を探求するため、2016 年にニューヨークに移住し、現在に至る。日本クラブWebギャラリーの常設アーティスト。今回出演するブロードウェイ歌手 Meghan Picerino の親しい友人であり、絵画と音楽のコラボを実現した。カーネギーホールの代表 Sir Clive Gillinson氏のオフィスには、東京海上アメリカのスポンサーにより、Kohの作品の1つである、故坂本龍一の肖像画が飾られている。

Christina Maxwell

(司会者/Master of Ceremony)

Christina Maxwell is a New York City-based award-winning singer and actress. Featured as a headlining soloist across the globe, Maxwell has performed in concert with members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, at the United Nations’ 67th Annual Commission on the Status of Women, and with symphonies across the country. She is a regular featured entertainer at the annual Festival Napa Valley. In September, she will make her Lincoln Center debut as a featured soloist at David Geffen Hall.

Extensive international tours include multiple concerts in Europe and Asia. Maxwell frequently performs in Japan as a headliner with Classical Music Collection Japan, including a sold-out performance at Nishi Hongwanji Temple, the first performance ever allowed at the UNESCO World Heritage Site. In December, Maxwell made her China performance debut with concerts in Shanghai and Beijing at the US Embassy.

On stage, Maxwell won the New York Musical Festival’s “Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role” as Laura in Sonata 1962, and she appeared as Deanna Durbin and Judy Garland U/S in the Papermill Playhouse production of Chasing Rainbows. On-screen, Maxwell has starred in commercials for Humira, Olay, and Nissan.

Maxwell also works at the intersection of the arts and business, consulting for brands such as Mikimoto, the Related Companies, and Shikohin. She is a regular Master of Ceremonies for events hosted by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Suntory, and the Nippon Club. Maxwell recently completed a 4-year stint as Director at global real estate firm, The Related Companies, where she was Executive Director of the High Line Nine Galleries and advisor on cultural/strategic partnerships and art acquisition.

Maxwell was named the Distinguished Young Woman of America in 2012 for excellence in scholastics, leadership, and talent joining the ranks of women such as Dianne Sawyer. This national honor took her around the country as a featured performer and speaker. Maxwell graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan’s acclaimed Musical Theatre program where she was named outstanding graduate. She is a native of Asheville, North Carolina, and was awarded the key to the city for her many accomplishments and community service.


Meghan Picerno

MEGHAN PICERNO (Soprano) handpicked by theatre legend, Hal Prince, Meghan returned as Phantom’s leading lady, Christine Daaé, for its historic Broadway reopening, where she was nominated as Broadway Replacement of the Decade, (Broadway World). Previously she delighted audiences to critical acclaim as Christine on the World Tour of Phantom, and in the U.S. Premiere/1st national tour of Love Never Dies, which led to a special invitation from Lloyd Webber to perform at the Classic BRIT Awards in London at the Royal Albert Hall, marking her debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Jay Armstrong Johnson

A fixture of stage and screen, Jay Armstrong Johnson most recently appeared in the Tony Award winning revival of Parade on Broadway. Jay is known to television audiences worldwide as genius hacker Will Olsen on ABC’s thriller series Quantico. On Broadway, Jay is considered one of the industry’s most versatile triple-threats, having starred as “Raoul” in The Phantom of the Opera for the global phenomenon’s record- breaking 30th anniversary, “Chip” in the celebrated revival of the classic musical On the Town, and the original casts of the Tony Award-winning revival of Hair, Hands on a Hardbody, and Catch Me if You Can. Jay’s debut album, Jay Armstrong Johnson -LVIE at Feinstein’s / 54 Below, is available on Spotify, iTunes, and broadwayrecords.com. Dan Micciche

Pianist

Dan Micciche is the current music director, conductor of WICKED on Broadway and has been with the show for over 10 years – including the national and international tours. He was recently inducted as a member of the Grammy’s Recording Academy this year. Prior to WICKED, Dan began his acting career as the youngest actor to play Mary Sunshine in CHICAGO for 2000 performances on Broadway as well as the national tour, Japanese, Alaskan and Thailand companies. He is one of the other performers to sing solo and conduct at The Kennedy Center. His TV / FILM work includes: WICKED (universal), The Tonight Show – with Jimmy Falon, 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, Good Morning America, Cake Boss. 油絵画家

Koh はニューヨークを拠点とする油絵画家です。 彼⼥は東京出⾝で、16分の1のフランスの混⾎です。フランスやアメリカで暮らした経験から、⽂化や性別を超え⼀段と多様化する世界観を探求するため彼⼥は2016年にニューヨークに移住しました。

彼⼥のコンセプトは⽭盾(⽣と死)、そして⼈間の複雑な⼼理状況を油絵を通して表現することです。彼⼥の作品はニューヨーク市の活気に満ちたエネルギーに⼤きな影響を受けており、矛盾(⽣と死)を通して、観る⼈の⼼に届く作品作りを⽬指しています。

Koh はパーソンズ 美術⼤学で成績優等⽣で美術学⼠号を取得し、ロンドン芸術⼤学で
交換留学⽣として美術絵画学⼠過程(優等)で学びました。パーソンズ美術⼤学で学ぶ前、彼⼥はコロンビア⼤学で学術論⽂を学びました。

Keita Ogawa

Percussionist & Drummer

Hailing originally from Nagasaki, Japan, Keita Ogawa is multi Grammy nominees and Grammy Award winner and one of the most versatile and sought-after percussionist and drummer in New York City.

He started his music career on drum set at the age of 15. After performing regularly in Tokyo for several years, Keita decided to pursue his musical studies overseas. He was accepted into the prestigious Berklee College of Music in fall of 2005 where he studied with legendary musicians and educators Manuel “Egui” Castrillo, Jamey Haddad, Tito De Gracia, David Rosado, and Mark Walker. Seeking full immersion into the world of Brazilian percussion, Keita relocated to Rio de Janeiro for 3 months and studied with the some of the country’s most respected musicians- Jorginho do Pandeiro, Celsinho Silva, Kiko Freitas, and Marcio Bahia among others.

Since his arrival in America, Keita has worked with some of the biggest names in modern music including Yo-yo-ma, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Assad Brothers, Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, Clarice Assad, Jaques Morelenbaum, Osvaldo Golijov, Les Nubians, Charlie Hunter, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and more.

He is member of Snarky Puppy, Bokanté and Banda Magda.

In 2016 He wrote opening Theme for National TV Program in Japan. Program Called “Hodo Station”.
In 2017 He became the Ambassador of Tourism of his Hometown, Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan.
In 2022 He received a Civic Honor Award from his hometown Sasebo city, Nagasaki Japan.

Adam Birnbaum

Jazz Pianist

Adam Birnbaum is emerging as one of the top young voices in jazz piano. Since arriving on the New York scene in 2003, he has become increasingly prominent performing in clubs and festivals around the world. A diverse performer, Adam is a member of The Al Foster Quartet, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society as well as frequently performing with the likes of Cecile McLorin Salvant, Regina Carter, Terell Stafford and many others.

Adam’s early education took place in Boston. In 2001 Adam became a member of the inaugural class of Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School. After graduating in 2003, Adam won the American Jazz Piano Competition in May 2004 to become the American Pianists Association’s Cole Porter fellow in Jazz.  Since then Adam has established a busy performing career as a sideman and as a leader. “Three Of A Mind,” (Daedalus Records, 2013) received four stars and an Editor’s Pick in Downbeat magazine and was hailed as “an eloquent dispatch from the heart of the contemporary piano trio tradition” by the New York Times. “Preludes,” Adam’s most recent release inspired by the music of J.S. Bach has begun to receive great critical acclaim as a ground-breaking fusion of classical and jazz music.

Adam is an Assistant Professor of Jazz at SUNY Purchase and a Steinway Artist.


Yasushi Nakamura

Bassist

“One of the most commanding voices on bass today”
Yasushi Nakamura is praised for imaginative, quicksilver bass lines that deepen the groove. His blend of guitar-like precision and gut-level blues has sparked collaborations with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Hank Jones, Dave Douglas, Steve Miller, etc. With his charismatic stage presence and artful, hard swinging melodic touch, Nakamura is a first-call performer capturing new audiences and fans around the world.

Born in Tokyo, Nakamura moved to the United States at age 9, and considers both places home. He began with clarinet and tenor saxophone, but his older brother’s study of guitar and drums drove him to pick up the bass. His love of rock and funk aside, the music of Charlie Parker, Ray Brown, Miles Davis were a potent influence on him. Nakamura received a BA in Jazz Performance from Berklee School of Music in 2000, and was awarded a full scholarship to The Juilliard School for his Artist Diploma in 2006. He credits Myron Walden as an early champion, and keeps close ties to Juilliard mentors Victor Goines, Wycliffe Gordon, and Carl Allen, Ben Wolfe all of whom maintain him in their bands.

Nakamura’s career is flourishing, with consistent engagements at premier jazz festivals including Tokyo, North Sea, Monterey, Ravinia, and venues such as Birdland, Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, the Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall. In 2014, he was honored to play the “NEA Jazz Masters Concert: Celebrating Jamey Abersold, Anthony Braxton, Richard Davis, and Keith Jarrett,” sharing the stage with Joe Lovano and Dave Liebman. A wide array of projects permits him to explore musical styles and collaborations. In 2016, he recorded with one of his long-time inspirations, Toshiko Akiyoshi, for her recent release, Porgy and Bess. His performance with Akiyoshi’s Jazz Orchestra was also broadcast as a documentary film. Recent works include “For the Love of Duke” with New York City Ballet choreographed by Susan Stroman, and “Ellington at Christmas: Nutcracker Suite” with Savion Glover, Lizz Wright, the Abyssinian Baptist Choir, and David Berger conducting. In 2010, he toured the Middle East with Jazz at Lincoln Center’s “Kings of the Crescent City” project, and he toured Asia in 2008 with the Juilliard All-Stars. As an educator, Nakamura has led master classes and summer intensive courses at the The Juilliard School, New School, Koyo Conservatory, Osaka Geidai, and Savannah Swing Central.

In 2016, Nakamura release his first album “A Lifetime Treasure” and in 2017 he also released 2nd album “Hometown” from Atelier Sawano featuring Lawrence Fields, Bigyuki, and Clarence Penn which received album of the year 2017 in JazzLife magazine. Most recently, he has been touring with Cécile McLorin Salvant, Joe Lovano/Dave Douglas Soundprints, American Patchwork Quartet, Christian Sands, Emmet Cohen, the Baylor Project, Vincent Herring, Wycliffe Gordon, and others.
