Business Current Events in English thorough NY Times
Would you like to learn more about current events while simultaneously improving your English?
Welcomes all intermediate learners of English, but is especially recommended for Japanese professionals. This class will help learners to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in America and around the world.
Each week, a different article from the New York Times is selected for reading and discussion. The emphasis is on new vocabulary acquisition, correct pronunciation and fluency. Past subjects have included:
  • -The Fast-changing Landscape of the U.S. Presidential Race
  • -The Biden-Trump Debate
  • -Opinion: How Our Country’s Immigration Policy Helped My Cancer Surgery
  • -The 2024 Election
  • -Divisiveness in the Japanese-American community over the Israel-Hamas war
  • -The safety issues faced by Boeing, an iconic American company.
  • -The U.K. Post Office scandal and the TV drama that helped to bring justice to its victims.
  • -The rush to appoint executives in charge of AI at major American corporations.
  •  -Nippon Steel’s proposal to acquire U.S. Steel.
The teacher of the class is bilingual and has worked in the corporate sector in New York for over 40 years. She holds a Certificate in English Language Teaching from the New School, and has taught Japanese students and international immigrants.
