This is an online course that you can participate from anywhere. Cello 30-minute private lesson (using Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, etc.). The number of lessons and the schedule will be decided after consultation. * Trial lesson (30 minutes / $ 70) is also available.

Shinko Hanaoka
Cellist Shinko Hanaoka has performed as soloist, chamber musician and orchestra player worldwide. During her time 2002-2016 as a member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra cello section in London, she performed in more than 35 countries and regularly appeared in the prestigious halls such as the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Berliner Philharmonic in Berlin, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Great Hall in Tonhalle in Zurich, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the Beijing Concert Hall in Beijing as well as the regular London venues in the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Barbican Centre. She has also worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra on regular basis and has been invited as a guest principal cellist in the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Northern Sinfonia.

As a recitalist, she has performed in the Wigmore Hall in London, the Landsdowne Club in the Bluthener Piano Recital Series in London, the Recital Hall in Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, major recitals halls in Tokyo such as the Toppan Hall, the Oji Hall, the Rose Hall in Suntory Hall, and Kioi Hall.

Her former piano trio group, the Mondsee Piano Trio, won the Harold Craxton Prize and John Ireland Prize and appeared in the BBC Radio 3 Young Artist Concert Series. She was a principal cellist of the chamber music group Royal Academy Soloists and it released the first CD “The Musical Landscape” labeled by the British Land Company. As a chamber musician, she had the honor of performing for the the BBC Diana Memorial Concert and for the Royal Banquet by Queen Elizabeth ll for the Japanese Emperor and Empress’ UK visit.

She was appointed as a member of the special faculty at the Maestro-ra Music Academy in Tokyo in 2010 and continues to provide masterclasses and lessons there. In addition, Shinko regularly holds classes and private lessons at The Nippon Club in New York.

Born in Tokyo. Shinko had her music education at Toho Gakuen School of Music in Japan, Illinois State University in the USA, and Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music with Distinction in UK. Her teachers include Mari Fujiwara, Ko Iwasaki, Nobuko Yamazaki, William Pleeth, Colin Carr, Steven Isserlis, Janos Starker, Anner Bylsma, and Philippe Muller.

During her studies, she won the Leo Stern Award, Ivor James Prize, Benjamin Dale Prize, Mrs Will Gordon & Thelma Reiss Prizes, and Florence Footen Prize. She is a recipient of the Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship, the Tokyo British Council Scholarship, the Nomura Foundation Scholarship, and the Funo Foundation Scholarship.

For those who take a full-term course for the first time, an initial registration fee ($25 for Japan Club members/$50 for the general public) must be paid in addition to the course fee. The registration fee is $50 for non-Nippon Club members, $25 for a Nippon Club member.The registration fee is for the first time only. $15 will be charged as a renewal fee after one year.
