20 Painting a cat in Japanese style

New Class

By combining unusual materials (newspaper, silver leaf etc.), you can create beautiful artwork in the traditional Japanese style, ready to display in your home. The workshop consists of 2 parts x 2 hrs.; in the 1 st part, participants will learn various art techniques, such as gilding with silver leaf and “antique-ing” the painted surface using sandpaper and glaze. In the 2nd part, they will learn how to paint with acrylic paint. All levels welcome.

Minako Ota
Minako Ota studied traditional Japanese painting at Tama Art University in Tokyo. After graduating in 1988 with a BA, she left Japan and began studying painting conservation at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond,VA, and she continued her study of conservation of western paintings in the postgraduate program at the University of Cambridge, UK. She worked in the field of conservation until 2007, when she started painting full time in Moscow, Russia. Minako currently lives and works in the US. She has had exhibitions in Japan, Russia, USA and France.
